FAQ

  • Where does the name Journey to Genesis come from?
Journey to Genesis is a private practice specializing in therapeutic interventions for Black women along their journeys to and through Motherhood. My road to motherhood was far from linear. It was met with several years of trying to conceive, infertility treatments, multiple surgeries for endometriosis and fibroids, and countless tears. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have provided therapy, coaching, guidance, and a loving ear to multiple demographics. However, when it came time to decide who the focus of my practice would be, I kept thinking "teach who and what you know". I have an innate bond with Black mothers and those trying to conceive. I know the pains of trying again and again to start your family. I have sat in the sterile clinic rooms waiting for teams of doctors to exam me. I have almost lost a child during pregnancy due to fibroid complications. As a medical social worker, I have held women in hospital rooms after the loss of a child. I know all too well and believe the biases faced by Black women when they walk into a hospital. I know how often their cries go ignored or dismissed. I am a Black mother. I am you. I love and value you. I want you to heal. Journey to Genesis was named after my two daughters; Genesis (my talkative brainiac) and Journey (my energetic flower child). I wanted to commemorate the notion that my journey to motherhood was far greater than trying to conceive and carry to term; it was a rebirth; a transformation; it was the Genesis into a new Journey of my life.
